Since mid-2023, Attalaki Organization has been running an enriching international internship program in partnership with Taa Marbouta Language Center. Designed to offer university students an immersive encounter with Tunisia’s cultural and religious diversity, the program has so far welcomed eleven interns from the United Kingdom, the United States, Denmark, and Italy. Many come from distinguished institutions such as the University of Exeter, Durham University, the University of St Andrews, and the University of Copenhagen, bringing expertise in fields such as Middle East Studies, Islamic Studies, International Relations, and Political Science.
At Attalaki, interns experience Tunisia not only as observers but as active contributors to an organization at the crossroads of research, advocacy, and cultural exchange. Depending on their background and interests, they take part in areas ranging from project management and communications to research, audiovisual production, and event organization. This flexible, personalized approach allows each participant to engage meaningfully with Attalaki’s mission of promoting inclusive citizenship, dialogue, and appreciation of Tunisia’s heritage.
Throughout the program, interns have designed and implemented their own initiatives, from interfaith and intercultural dialogue sessions to audiovisual activities and community workshops. Some curated film screenings and led conversations on cultural representation and coexistence, while others produced research papers exploring topics such as Tunisian cultural heritage, the Bahá’í community, Sufi shrines, and local religious festivities. Their contributions continue to enrich Attalaki’s documentation efforts and provide valuable insights for researchers and students interested in Tunisia and the wider region.
Beyond their individual work, interns gain firsthand experience of the dynamics of civil society in Tunisia. They collaborate with Attalaki’s team in an environment that encourages exploration, critical thinking, and creativity, a space where the country’s rich heritage and social diversity are lived, discussed, and understood daily.
As the program continues to grow, Attalaki remains committed to fostering a meaningful international experience that bridges cultures and deepens understanding. By welcoming young people from around the world, the organization helps shape a generation of globally minded individuals who value diversity, embrace dialogue, and engage thoughtfully with the communities they encounter, while discovering the depth and richness of Tunisia’s past and present.
To all the interns who have shared this journey, Attalaki extends its sincere gratitude. Your curiosity, dedication, and insight continue to inspire our work and strengthen our vision for the future.
