On June 13, 2025, in Hammamet, a panel brought together four renowned experts and approximately 60 participants from two parallel workshops organized by Attalaki. The discussion provided a rich platform to explore issues related to women’s status and social roles within the Tunisian context.
The panelists included:
· Dr. Hela Jaballah, Member of Parliament and the Commission on Rights and Freedoms, expert in law and public policy;
· Dr. Monia Almi, Professor at Zitouna University, specialist in Islamic studies and feminism in the Arab world;
· Dr. Najla Lahyani, Member of Parliament and the Parliamentary Education Committee, specialist in legislative matters;
· Dr. Ikbal Gharbi, Professor of Religious Anthropology and member of the Presidential Commission on Individual Freedoms and Equality.
Drawing on intersecting religious, anthropological, and legal perspectives, the panel highlighted the historical, cultural, and constitutional foundations that shape Tunisia’s unique approach to women’s rights. The discussion acknowledged significant progress while identifying ongoing challenges to achieving full equality.
This inclusive dialogue fostered collective reflection on practical measures adapted to the country’s socio-cultural realities, paving the way for enhanced women’s participation across all areas of public life.
